Nostalgia

I am just back from Seoul today, but down with a flu during my trip there. Come back with a cold & cough. It is certainly not comfortable traveling on a plane with these symptoms. I usually devour the in-flight movies when on board but this time round I slept thru the most part. Both my ears were so painful during the descent that I was concerned whether I could still hear after landing. I have traveled on planes many times but it was never that painful, hitting right into my nerves. And I thank God that despite the blocked nose, I could still breathe normally on the plane. That is a life-saving blessing. Once I touched down, I head straight to the doctor, only to realize I had fever as well. No wonder my head was painful like hell on the plane…

The doctor I visited is my ex-company doctor; I have seen him for the last several years. The clinic is adjacent to the building where my ex-company office is. After almost 3 months of leaving my old job, going back to the same street brings back lot of memories. I have spent so many years on this street… close to 9 years. I remembered the nurses & doctors; I remembered the food-stall owners; I even remembered the bus drivers who sent me to work every morning. Not that I know them personally, but there is this emotional attachment I have for this place, and, of course… for my ex-company as well. You know, it can be the small little things in life that are memorable. In a way, I grow with the place too. I witness the changes in this area over the years, new roads, new buildings.

It may sound strange that I write more about this little visit to my ex-work place than about my business trip to Seoul. The former is indeed close to my heart. The most exciting thing for my Seoul trip is probably the hotel where I’m staying, W Seoul Walkerhill. I must say, in all the hotels I have stayed so far, there has been none which is like this. It is really a mixture of fun & fantasy. If I am with friends there - instead of boss - we will probably be having lots of crazy fun.

Check out this hotel W Seoul Walkerhill
